“Alternative Medicine to Increase Blood Flow and Speed Up Recovery Times"
Cupping therapy is an alternative medicine type undertaken by a trained therapist placing special cups on the skin to create a suction effect. This is a holistic treatment for both internal and external injuries and is done primarily by increasing blood flow to the affected area.
This restores the functionality of the damaged tissues, releasing accumulated toxins and fluids from the area including lactic acid.
To bring blood into the targeted area, capillaries are broken down due to the pressure applied by cupping therapy to the soft tissue. This is what causes the characteristic bruising that occasionally comes with cupping therapy. The body’s way of dealing with these broken capillaries is to flood the area with blood and oxygen in response, therefore speeding up the healing process.
Cupping provides an alternative method of relieving muscle tension, as when used alongside massage it can pull the muscle upward out of its normal position, providing a prolonged stretch that massage techniques would struggle to achieve.
Common Injuries/Issues that can be aided by cupping therapy:
Asthma - Increased blood flow from cupping can allow the lungs to expand more and airways to open further, reducing risk of asthma attacks.
Migraines/Headaches - Headaches are caused by constriction of the blood vessels in the cranial area. While cups cannot be applied to the head, cupping certain areas of the body can increase blood flow to the brain and stop migraines and headaches.
Cold and Flu - Cupping aids in the thinning and dislodging of mucus, can also boost autoimmune response time, encouraging a faster recovery rate.
Muscle Tightness - Relief from muscle stiffness is a very effective benefit of cupping therapy. The influx of blood to the affected area results in the softening of tissue and an increase in flexibility and ease of mobility..
